You can find cheaper cams than NRS, but hard to beat their quality. I prefer polyester webbing for strength and UV resistance; it's pretty generic and you can usually find deals and closeouts via google search. For thread, somewhere around T60 polyester; Sailrite has silicone treated which works well in my machine, but it too is widely available. You can save a lot of money making your own straps.

If you are trying to manage cost (because many straps are crazy expensive) I have had a great experience with Salamander Paddle Gear. They sell a cam strap grab bag that is extremely cost effective. They use left over strap from custom order's to make the cam straps, so you end up with straps with company names on them, but the quality has been very good. You can choose the lengths you like.

Strap works are good, you have to buy polyester not polypropelene. But as MTTODD said and one other. Tuff River stuff are top shelf. They go the extra mile with finishing the cut end and they have a D ring built in which serves a couple of purposes. You can tuck your tail in and when you are stacking multiple cats or raft you can reach these easily from the outside of the pile to strap boats to each other.
