yakima stacker failure

while loading my new boat, I noticed the upright was loose. If this would have happened on the road it could have been catastrophic. Stacker is in it's 2nd year of use.

That's unfortunate. Glad you weren't on the road. I hope Yakima replaces it for you.
That is unfortunate, but why would it be catastrophic? I would think maybe just loud with a dent or two to the roof. Stackers only help organize boats; they should always be secured to the actual rack.

If it were to break off there would be a 50lb hunk of plastic dangling 6-8' off the side of my car. You don't think that could be catastrophic for a motorist in the lane next to me?
Not sure where your stackers are failing, but the black plastic caps ripped off mine. Here's what I did to fix them 3 years ago, and no problems since.
