Just returned from a meeting in Pagosa Springs concerning river restoration etc.. Apparently they have a federal grant ("Fishing for Fun") of 269,000 for fishing habitat, being a specified federal grant it can only be used for fishing habitat improvement....the city is also putting up 169,000, which will be used only for walkways, handicap access etc, none of this money will go to improvements to the river itself...the town will entertain whitewater features, although no monies will be set aside for features. Where are the other city playparks getting monies to fund this? B.V., Salida, etc... The fishing community takes the stand that if it works out to be a good play spot, great, but if not too bad, find your own money for your own playspots.

Also, if anyone has verifiable info on what whitewater parks return to the community, in terms of dollars, i would love to have that info to approach the city council with. I think if they knew how much money these parks (Golden) contribute to the local economy, they may be more willing to consider some of the funding themselves

thanks kelly
