Some friends did it last fall with about 700 cfs and their comments were:

-river bed is quite wide and shallow (less than 6" in many places)
-1200cfs is a minimum to float through and not get stuck on sand bars
-big head wind and flat paddle to the lake.

it is a fair trip that ends in a giant bathtub ring of mud, stickers and dead trees, then sandbars and a windy reservoir to paddle/row/tow across. I did it once and have never had a desire to go back. A beutiful place ruined by a dam.

Best run high, get out at Frijoles Crk. carry up to Bandalier{apx 2 miles strenuous for kayaks ,brutally difficult for a raft} to avoid long flat willowy run out of like 10 or 14 miles.Frijoles trail has a couple of pretty falls, you'll have to pay to park in Bandalier ,but theruins are worth a visit.Difficult logistics make this easy run barely worth doing, still it's on my list.

PhilBob,
Don't really need to start an arguement, you probably know the area far better than i do,but I am positive we did not walk 14 miles from car to the river and back .From the trailhead to the visitors center /snack bar / parking was maybe a mile? N ow i'll go read the park literature and re-post if you are correct.
