I was told by someone that was there yesterday that they are requiring permits for one night at the put in plus two more nights on the river, total 3 nights and $75. We'll find out tomorrow am when we stop by. Anyone else have info on that?

That is what they charged us earlier this month. Two River Permits and a "Special Use" permit for camping at the put in. Each is $25, so $75 total unless you camp somewhere else the night before.

They need your name, address and maybe phone number....no Drivers License number required.
I just called and EM is correct. The only place to get them is at the Sinclair Station at the junction of 60 & 73. Name and addresses is all they need if you’re buying for others so a library card might work. 🤪
So if you’re not camping at the put in 2 river permits. @$25.00 = $50.00. If your camping at the put in “Special Use” permit for another $25.00 = $75.00. I guess Sportsman Warehouse in Show Low has them but I just got off the phone with a guy who said they sold him the wrong permit so he had to pay twice.Ouch

Every permit holder must be going even with the high water. No cancellations on rec.gov
One more question has anyone been able to call Don Sullivan in the last week? I never got an answer or a chance to leave a message. The main office doesn’t answer either. Hell of a way to run a river office

We bought permits for others in our group who were absent. Name and address inc zip code. No drivers license #.
And as EM noted, 1 special use permit for camping the night before, 2 days of river permits = $75

And don't use the commercial ramp even though the private ramp sucks! (or ask the ranger/guides if you can drive onto the commercial ramp after the commercials leave for the day)

I just got off the Salt and spoke directly with the Tribal River Ranger. Quote- You only need two days of the Salt River Rafting permit, totaling $50 per person. You do not need a Special Use permit or other camping permit for the put-in. Most people in our group purchased their permits at the Sinclair and were told that they need the special use permit to cover camping at the put-in ($75 total per person) but the Tribal Ranger said no- Two days of the Salt River permit covers your camping at the put-in. A couple people in the group purchases tribal permits at Sportsman's in Show Low and they insisted that we need $100 of permits per person so do not go there. The Tribal Ranger said he would clarify with the people at Sinclair but who knows.

All that said, I would have paid whatever they told me too.....it was great whitewater!

Strange, I gave him both our river permits and camping permits, he didn't ever say we didn't need the camping.

but I'm with you, it was worth it!!

I called the Tribal office. What he told you is a trick so they can confiscate your boat and beer. You could be right but what if you’re wrong? Did he show it to you in writing?

I was thinking about this more as well.
the website says 12am to 12am...and if you're there the day before, you need a permit. I wouldn't risk it. get the permit to camp.

The rafting page on the website also says camping fees are only $9 per vehicle and doesn't mention special use permits... which are $20 on their web store (that doesn't work).

Unfortunately it doesn't seem like disperate folks from WMAT are on the same page about what is correct and it seems like it changes from day to day and person to person.... so probably just cover your ass a little and do your best.

from Don Sullivan's update email today:

The Tribal police asked me to remind you to not bring firearms on their land, and also, that they require permits ($25 per person) for two nights for people traveling through the wilderness and three if you are camping at the put-in the night before your launch.
