I saw this on boatertalk...

Go to:

http://maps.google.com

search for "grand canyon, az"

click on the "Satellite" link on the top right of the page

center page on the river

zoom in as close as you can

look at the big ass rapids! You can even make out the waves!

This is pretty sweet. I was checking out some front range Co. creeks but most of the big stuff is out of range of the high detail images. Rigo on Clear Creek is pretty obvious. So is Butress on Boulder Creek.

Cool

Funny -- my dad has been e-mailing me links of rapids all over the Colorado River for two days. You can see Horn pretty well...and the eddy below Crystal where we had to re-flip an 18' Avon bucket. Not recommended. The sat pics are bank, though!

Not as wet, but just as cool.

type in Gerlach, NV and go to satelite. zoom in and move diagonally up and right into the darker images. You should find a gaggle of freaks building Burning Man from 2003.

Thats awsome, this is exactly the last thing I need to discover going into school finals season. Phantom is easily visible just below and to the right of the half cloud in the middle of the image, so is a hugh j-rig just up stream of it. Sweet find. thanks

I was racking my brain for big water rapids that I could find...

search washington, dc for great falls

niagara falls, ny is a no brainer, scroll downstream of the falls to see a huge rapid that ends in a mega-whirlpool

any other huge rapids you can think of?
