Anyone recommend any tops to wear for the hot weather? The western slope has been damn hot the past month and the colorado river feels like bath water in comparison to the roaring fork. Came across a few extra bucks this month and was looking at getting a top that wouldn't be quite as hot as a dry top. I know, whenever i get hot with a dry top on i should roll and that will cool me right off and that's what i usually do but on some of these 90+ degree days it's be nice to have something a bit cooler. I've done quite a bit of research but was looking for others suggestions as well. Let me know, thanks :)

I experienced this when I first started. I bought a Stohlquist shorty top...and used it twice. I tend to get cold quickly when paddling, and found the shorty unneccesary. Now I adjust my layering, and do lots of surfing/rolling when it gets too hot. Better to be hot than cold.

I've been wearing my ten year old unibomber. leaks just enough to keep me cool and I had Wildwasser install a new rand that fits modern cockpit rims.

I don't wear it creeking, but it is super comfy and convenient.

I have a non-dry IR shortly with the soft gaskets. I wear a thick short sleeve hydroskin under. Works like a charm July 1 +.

PeakUK!

check out the peakUk Combi shorty, I love it. I've had one for three years now and absolutely love it. keeps me plenty warm all summer, keeps the sun off, and works great into the early fall. I have tried several other shorties this has been my favorite and the only one I kept more than one season. The NRS that I had fell apart, I warantied it twice before I got ride of it and just gave up on it. The PeakUK warranty is also top notch and they are stellar to work with! You should give them a serious look before you buy anything!

RE: PeakUK...

I have a full dry top from Peak. The velcro on the wrists is worthless, I don't have the newer creek jacket and obviously with a shorty you won't have to worry about it. The neck gaskets need to be trimmed. I let mine stretch 2 years before I realized it was just sooooooo long. it rolled down the neck constantly.

Otherwise a happy camper. SLC, don't you work for PeakUK? Somebody out in Utah does...

PeakUk

Don't work for them, I have met Ken Driscoll, he's the PeakUK guy here in the US and happens to live in SLC. I bought my the combi shorty semi drytop form Ken, and have since changed all of my dry gear over to peakUK. I didn't like the velcro at the wrists too much either, but found that I never used it and never needed it and have stayed completely dry. I'm a pretty big guy and sweat a lot and the top breaths well enough that I haven't had any issues at all. I have used several other brands as well, I have been managing a rafting company in Idaho for about ten years now, and even with access to just about any other drytop out there, I stand by my PeakUK gear!
