Freedom Road Trip '08 (June 28 - July 6)

My holiday week just freed up and so I'm taking a road trip. I have some friends that are joining me for the beginning and end of the trip so the ends are set but the rest of the trip is fluid.

I'll be by myself Monday -Thursday and I'd prefer not to paddle alone particularly since quite a few of these are new to me. So if any of you would be willing to show me the lines or willing to explore new runs/rides let me know.

My general plan is to boat as much class III/IV water as possible and fill all the other time biking, relaxing, hiking, reading, and exploring cool mountain towns; basically whatever fits the mood. If you know other runs or cool bike rides, hikes or camp grounds in these areas please let me know, this is last minute planning and I could use your help.

Sat (this Sat)
Royal Gorge
Maybe Pinnacle as well, but probably not
Beers in Salida that night

Salida playpark for sure!
Maybe Pine Creek...?

Run Taylor canyon
Drive to Gunnison area
Potential additional runs:
Cebolla Creek (not sure if it is running, no online gage)
Lake Fork of the Gunnison (Red Bridge to Gateview)

Do one of the additional runs above
North Fork of the Gunnison
I would love to get on the Gunny Gorge but my car won't make it.
Anyone have have space in a shuttle, I'll share in the cost.

NF of the Gunnison/Gunny Gorge
Further south to Plateau City for Plateau Creek
Head to Glenwood Springs to the wave.

Thursday (need to be in the Vail area Thur evening)
Glenwood play spot
Shoshone and/or Sweetwater Creek (if running)
Gore Creek and Dowd Chute on the Eagle river

Start with Lower Eagle (Class II/III) to get Nate and Rupp warmed up
Then Upper Eagle (Class III) for a little more action.

Browns Canyon
Then to...
The SALIDA BEER FEST...ummm beer

No idea other than eventually get home and shower at least twice.

There is plenty of other routes and a whole lot of runs that I haven't included, I'd be open to any suggestions.

Hope to see you out there, if not I hope you find a way to celebrate life and freedom over this holiday.

My wife and I will be travelling out this weekend from South Carolina for a week in CO before heading to the Grand Canyon. We'll be loaded with Bikes and Boats and Looking to do some class III-IV paddling.

Our plan is to hit Denver by Sunday Night, then paddle something on the Front Range Monday before heading into the heart of the mountains, probbably to Vail for some biking and Gore/Eagle, then to BV/Salida.
Maybe we'll run into you for shuttle etc. Look for a Gray Honda Odyssey with boats and SC tags...
