Check out this video of the 2014 Vallecito Creek Race! Vallecito Race 2014 - YouTube

Sorry no one knew about the race....it was kind of under the radar and the same weekend as Fibark but we had good levels so we had to race when we could. We are trying to grow interest in this event so maybe we can have an official race through this canyon at some point. maybe next year!

Cheers

Thanks

Awesome video. Looks like a lot of fun.

I noticed at around 1:30 you (or whoever is in the Yellow/Red Mamba) do (2x) a funky cross-bow boof stroke that I hadn't seen before. (Not that I've witnessed a lot of creeking at that level.) Whats that called? When/why do you use it? Is it a common stroke most advanced creek boaters have in their toolbox (i.e., worth practicing) or just something quirky you've adopted?
The steezy cross-stroke canoe BOOF is definitely something you need to know. It's hugely effective in getting those huevos to launch off fuzzy bunny smoothly
sick vid!!!!!!! what is up with the cross-stroke boof? could he/she not just use their right hand?
Yes his right hand does not work anymore from over stroking. As result the cross void allows for for him to not use his hand

Can you explain this logic?

It's a good strategy but he needs more lean to really relieve the pressure on that hand.

This over stroking issue is a really common problem within the male Durango boating community. Just ask jmack.

Lol!!!!!!

But seriously... is this A good thing to learn or wait till you have a problem to learn it?

I think it's a slalom boater move to make faster turns. For creekboating, it's what you do when Vallecito becomes too easy and you want to show everybody how sick you are.

Anything that develops balance and paddle control isn't a bad skill, but it's certainly not something you need to learn.
Nice video.
There are fine lines between stroking too much, not enough, or getting it just right.
I know you're just jealous of the monopaddle.

Can I come next year?
