Any GJ/west slope boaters ever run anything above Colbran? Still a lot of water coming out of there. The section below Vega Reservoir looks like it might have some good gradient. Hit me up if you want to explore here soon.
Leon Creek was in the 1st Colorado Rivers and Creeks guidebook:IV/V with a lot of wood to scout. It is in the State Park (and above?) and they carried upstream.People do Buzzard .I have seen the part you are talking about and thought the same thing.
I personally have not & don't know anyone who's run above Colbran. Generally I put in at Colbran turn off. There is some decent paddling in the next section above that but it has property issues & a number of fences & wood.
I do run Buzzard & posted earlier on the wood issues in there which certainly may have changed cause its had higher water since then.
FYI I've been putting in at buzzard takeout and running down to Jerry Gulch bridge. It was super stompy fun non stop class 3+ at 1800 cfs! Ive also done it lower and its fun class 2-3 at lower levels too. There is one low bridge we had to portage at high water and two fences around half way through the 12ish mile run. The fences were just a single top strand wire that was easily avoidable on the sides.
