I just wanted to get the word out early about an upcoming event that every paddler should take advantage of. During our Paddle with the Pros on Clear Creek June 11th & 12th I have brought in someone I consider the best swift water instructor around, Mike Mather. Here is just a glimpse of his style http://www.matherrescue.com/ Notice how he has real life pinned himself and has taught his class the skills to pull him free. I know, pretty sick. Mike and I have been setting up a one day only class on Sat. the 11th from 8:30am till 4:30pm with the class emphasis on kayakers, paddler rescue, boat retrieval, etc... I have taken the class and learned more then from any other instructor. In our class Mike pinned himself on a bridge and also stuffed himself in his kayak for us to pull him free. To some it seems crazy but he has it worked out and his technique will show you what it is like when shit really hits the fan and you have to act, fast.
Typically this class is $175 but Mike has lowered the price to $50! Why? To get people out in the water and get paddlers safer. Many out there paddle over their head and THINK they know what to do when it goes down but don't. The idea here is to educate and show some real scenarios in real conditions. We will do the whole class all day on Sat. followed by a free cookout provided by yours truly along with optional conversation about river rescue with Mike. You will receive an A.C.A card that shows participation in a swift water rescue class geared toward kayak rescue. There is so much to learn that it would be impossible to learn everything there is about rescue in one day however this action packed class will step up your safety skills. The class will take place near the Lawson hole on Clear Creek. Class size is limited so e-mail me at [email protected]. Remember that PWTPs is FREE as always but the swiftwater class is $50.
Our Paddle with the Pros will be both days so if you decide to take the class Sat., no worries, all the fun of PWTPS will carry on Sunday and we will have a free breakfast served up in the a.m. This is a great chance for a fun weekend of paddling, learning new skills, and possibly learning some skills that may very well save your paddling friends life.
