A few of us are going to boat from Stone Bridge to Salida (18 miles) on Friday 7-4-14.
Anyone may join us and I would rate it class 2 just into class 3 in some locations.

We might be interested. Any idea what time you'd want to get started?

We're heading to the mountains for a week, but I don't know exactly where we'll be on what days, so we'd be tentative at this point. I should know more later next week as we get closer to our departure.

I am always amused by the people that find it nessessary to add non supported comments rather than getting involved in getting more people on the river.

Tango is right, you are wrong. If you read the site you are referencing it says 9.3 miles from Stone Bridge to Salida. Maybe he's doing you a favor by pointing out that the section you are talking about is half of what you think it is.
The description from that source actually references running from Stone Bridge all the way to Rincon. It mentions several options for put-in and take-out, but that's where they get the 18.7 miles from.

Colo$o, where were you planning to take out? One of the options in Salida or are you going all the way to Rincon? Looks like it's all class II until you get past Salida east? Then a couple class II between there and Rincon?

Based on your original post, I assume you are planning to go all the way to Rincon just from what you described...
Yes we plan to go to Rincon but are open to what the group wants and the weather.

Get fucked. I paddled stone to salida TOWN on sunday with a total beginner and it took 2 hours. I was trying to provide accurate info, and I'm out there in the trenches putting more people on the river.

FWIW, I saw value in pointing out the length so someone doesnt ruin their whole damn day.

I am going to see Dark Star on July 3 at Mishawaka and going to be rafting the Poudre on July 4th. Camping at Columbine Lodge/Rusty Buffalo the night of the third. Bring your toys, people!
If you go past Salida East to Rincon you will have 1 real rapid being bear creek which is a good solid III right now. In a raft on Sunday it took me 2 hours from Big Bend to Salida East.

Please watch out for the diversion dam near the smelter town tower. Go left. Way left.
Thanks for everyones thoughts and updated....it always helps.
Would the river there be ok for tubing as well?
Not yet IMHO. River is still moving pretty good if you end up swimming. Just had another death last week, on this same run.

Please be careful everyone. Correction looks like 2 deaths last week with one still missing. I hope I am wrong. See other post about missing woman.
Thank you! I think I'll wait a bit for that run until the river slows!

No. You can run tubes through the play waves in downtown Salida. Tubing that stretch is impractical for many reasons, but the majority of the stretch is private land, so to even stand in the river is trespassing. I don't think 10 miles of inner tubing class two sounds like that much fun anyway, that is a long f-ing day.
