Any thoughts on which one is better and why? Planning to run an oar frame on it with not much gear. Thanks!

I've never used a star slice but picked up a phatcat this spring and it's amazing with an oar frame. Using 8" towers, and cobras, and 8ft oars.

Slice has the benefit of extra storage in the front and rear pockets.

Phatcat is shorter and narrower, making it a bit less stable than the Slice XL, but a bit more maneuverable. Probably not so much that you'd notice the difference.

Phatcat has a much better color selection.

Honestly, can't go wrong either way!

Phatcat is awesome. I’m biased. I have one. Saving up to run oars eventually. Thing is very stable for size, and drafts like no water compared to round boats in the 10-12 foot range. Pretty burly too. I’m not nice to it. I find it to be a really good boat for extending the season on smaller water. Especially with how short the season is here in CO.

Honestly, the built in storage compartments are the only reason that I wouldn't consider a Star. These may be a dryish pocket to hold some dry gear or something but, make it impossible to drop a cooler or something larger into that space.
These areas are the only places to rig significant gear on a paddle cat.
