This just in from Lyon's favorite gauge putter upper... SSV 7" on the Booth gauge today (6/24). Nice medium flows.
Directions to gauge
Some info for those that haven't used the new visual gauge. Booth put up a ruler on a rock under the footbridge on SSV in town. As you are driving out of town on hwy 7 to SSV, take a left on Prospect (last paved street before the road turns west), go one block, take a right on 4th, and you will see a small parking area next to a bridge over the creek. Go to the river right side of the bridge, and on the upstream side, you can see a ruler on a rock.
Gauge Readings
4" is low, but fun.
5" is good, a little more padded, med/low.
6" and up is getting to medium and starting to get some juice.
Haven't heard any reports above 7" this year (7" on race day). Not 100% sure about min... 3-3.5 likely min range, of course varying with personal taste for mank. Attached is a map to show where the gauge is.
I've tried to correlate the middle st vrain, ssv @ ward, and left hand diversions, and in general they give a good indication of trend (up vs. down), but there is some scatter and we experienced the same visual gauge flow at different flows on the gauges. I think the visual gauge is a good reference to help figure out the flows. Not sure if there are any diversions below the SSV run proper and the gauge in town. The visual gauge seems to be consistent with on water experiences though.
Enjoy!!! Post visual report if you check the gauge when you run it.
