Does anyone know of a good guide book specifically for the Selway River?
So far, I havn't been able to find anything on the internet. I'm looking for information like day hikes, rapid info, and campsites.
Thanks in advance
Thanks for the web link. Yah the snowpack in Idaho sucks this year. Where are those people complaining about how the "Colorado snowpack sucks". Maybe Colorado isn't so bad after all. It's strange how the table has turned.
Hopefully there will be enough runoff to float on the Selway.
I don't remember hearing anyone from ID "complaining about how CO snowpack sucks". The only one I remember is that post by someone that lives in CO a while back. You know, it's just all in the cards you get dealt. The northwest does get reliable snow but any place can get screwed. I don't think you can make global statements such as "it's better here than there". It also makes for an "us against them" mentality on forums such as this that totally contradicts that of kayaking. I'm just glad they didn't empty the res that provides the NF with water. They were talking about it last year and changed their minds. That would have really screwed things up. As it is, we will still be paddling a sweet class V classic well into October this year. Even with the shitty snowpack. Anyone who is up here should give me a shout.
I wasn't implying that someone from Idaho said that "colorado snowpack sucks". I was just commenting on how rediculous it is to complain about colorado snow and weather in general. It's too bad Idaho has such a low snowpack, but it will probably still be a decent year. Do a snow dance in Boise, maybe that will help.
This link is to the RiverMap for the Selway. It's a great map (I have one - be sure to pay attention to the errata!) but not much of a guidebook. No descriptions of rapids, camps, history, etc that we expect from a guidebook. I heartly recommend it, but don't expect details, just locations.
