So, my square tops are weathered after 10 years of heavy use and the finish on the tops are peeling. Anyone have experience refinishing or customizing them to make them more durable?

Light sand, then spar varnish. Do 2-3 coats. You can use it on the non wood parts too. They'll look like new.
