A buddy and I are looking to take our first run down lower clear creek. I have scouted the rapids and know that the dam drop isn't all that great of a rapid so its almost better to portage it. On our first descent is this a run we should hook up with someone that has run it before or would we be fine on our own?

If you have seen all the rapids (including elbow falls) then that should be a call you can make for yourself.

Only thing I would add is expect the worse case scenario if there is only two of you - a swimmer. On a new run in a rescue situation, are both of you comfortable enough to gather swimmer and equipment with no help? That has been the deal breaker for me before with just two boaters and a new stretch (but at least in theory all your gear will end up in the playpark if there is an incident :) ).

I'd recommend others for safety and gear chasing. The flow is up and clear creek is continuous at current levels. Elbow and Screaming 1/4 mile are the likely places for swims, and chasing boats can be an extended affair. With only two, if one swims, you either chase gear solo (not so cool), or say goodbye to your gear as it goes on a solo mission.

Respect the rising water. Its still early in the season, skills may be rusty, the water is cold and fast, and your gear will go a long way without you.

I chased down a few boats on clear creek last night and it was tough to catch them.
