Im on a westwater trip on april 14/15. On the 13th i wanted to make a day trip on ruby/horsethief, in a canoe. i was wondering how long it takes to run ruby/horsethief at the current flows, if it is possible in a long day.
Also, are there any other put-ins that could make it into a shorter trip.
Thanks

Hi,

Ruby Horsethief can easily be done in a day at typical levels if the wind is not too bad. At higher flows in an open boat, pay attention to the swirlies at Blackrocks.

FWIW.

With now wind it's ~8 hr. float with the current at this level.

Shouldn't be a problem at all in a canoe. The wind would be the only worry, and I don't think that's a big concern. It's a beautiful trip and well worth it though.
