Water rights and issues, such as Water legislation, seniority of Water Rights and Recreational In-Channel Diversions (RICD) can be very complicated and difficult to fully understand. Many times, casual conversations on these subjects lead to more questions than answers.
The Gunnison Valley Paddle Club along with the Upper Gunnison River Water Conservation District (UGRWCD) hopes to answer some of the questions that the public may have and to spread a greater understanding of the recreational water issues affecting the GunnisonValley.
Thursday, July 5th there will be an informational meeting at the GunnisonWhitewaterPark starting at 6:30pm lead by Frank Kugel of the UGRWCD. He will discuss RICD in terms of its history, legislation, impacts on future water development, and the roles of the GunnisonCounty and the Water Conservation District.
Also to be discussed are maintenance and other issues pertaining to the GunnisonWhitewaterPark and the reconstruction of the dangerous and intimidating PsychedelicFalls just down stream from the WhitewaterPark.
This is a great opportunity to discuss these issues in an informal atmosphere with those who really know the subject. All those who use the GunnisonRiver for recreational purposes or have questions about the future of Gunnison’s whitewater park are encouraged to attend. If you have further questions or would like to get involved, please contact Greg Osgood of the Gunnison Valley Paddle Club at [email protected].
