The benefit for raising the seat really is better leverage on the boat making vertical moves easier to initiate but when you gain leverage you loose stability. The best way to raise the seat that I have found is to remove it and add some foam to whatever thickness you are after to the bottom of the seat. This allows you to adjust the seat front to back still as the balance can change when you do this. Good luck!
