I don’t think anyone is paying $5K for a paddle cat…even new from the top companies. Also, yes my $5k 13’ AIRE raft can do a lot that a Chinese made paddle cat can’t do. Not down on your boat at all, but you definitely came at us with a statement intended to jab and not based in fact. Boat looks fun though!

Was pretty excited how this came together. Home made 1.25 frame. Chainsaw ripped pine slab that I planed down to (almost) flat. Custom bags from Stitches n' Stuff. Geometry could be better and it gets heavy to push on long days but super fun and sporty. Ran Shoshone with a buddy sitting up front no problem.

Cheap Chinese does look good with a side of smug.
Right?! The last thing I want to do it trash someone’s boat (I’ve been there, I’ve done the budget boat thing), but there is definitely a reason I scraped and saved for years to get a quality boat. Saying that little Saturn paddle cat can do everything a boat from a reputable manufacturer can do is simply not true.

Ill put it this way, can a Walmart backpack carry a days worth of gear the same as my American made Mystery Ranch hunting pack? Probably, but when I add 100lbs of elk to that pack it will definitely shit the bed, while my mystery ranch will say thank you and ask for more…and it’ll keep doing that for 10+ years.

But my back would also shit the bed. It’s built more like a Walmart back. Though it IS American made.

Validation for the Green Phat Cat!

Meant to respond last night. I really dig the rear storage bag and just noticed the drop bag under the pine slab…. Without a passenger how would it be on a long day of rowing?

how much can you load it up before it starts to drag?I would think those 23” tubes could carry quite a bit…

I have yet to put enough weight on it to notice it feeling sluggish. 170 lb buddy up front didnt tip the scale too bad at all. I rigged it for a San Juan 3 day with support from other boats, and had no problems there. Occasionally if I'm pushing hard on the oars I hear a little slosh from the front cooler dragging.

GIGO
Enjoy the ride.
How far will a cheap boat go? Same as a bargain aircraft, all the way to the scene of the crash. Keep wearing your life jacket or PFD for you fancy people and leave your dog at home. I hear cheap things can be improved with peanut butter and bacon, you know as bear deterrent.
It’s more important to know what you don’t know than what you do.
Get some!
