 A group of us were in the narrows last night near sunset. When we passed the rock (about 6:45 pm) it was approaching 1.5, but it wasn't even quite there yet. When we put on the at the campground it felt like it was a little bit higher than 1.5 on the rock. By the time we got to super collider, half of our group was portaging and Lil' Pete and I were having a rodeo contest in the hole. I became quite intimate with the hole and by my estimation it was closer to 2 ft. on the gauge (a little to high for the play boats...I was lucky I didn't swim). By the time we got to lower narrows it was almost dark, but I could tell for certain, by some of my own personal gauge rocks in that rapid, that it was at least 2 ft. And now I'm looking at the graph and lo and behold the super spike... http://www.dwr.state.co.us/Hydrology/flow_graph.asp?ID=CLAFTCCO&MTYPE=DISCHRG ...and it's still rising. Has anyone seen the Poudre come up this fast before? Are they releasing water or what? i know it was hot the last couple of days, but the graph goes almost vertical! Get on it Poudre town!

I agree, some friends and I put in just below the upper at 6:15 and did the middle and lower. By the time we did a few laps on the lower and were getting ready to leave I could hardly find the beers I stashed in the river before we started. It was almost a major catastrophe but I came through in the clutch and salvaged the effort.

If things keep up the poudre may run out of water well before it normally does. Better get on it while it good.

Evan,
From what I have heard, is that they are doing some major moving of water, for storage later. I don't know what this will mean for our season, but I do know what it means for this evening..narrows.
better now than never.
