Paddling groups around Denver?

1262 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  streetdoctor
I'm new to the paddling scene in Denver and trying to find people to paddle with. I picked up a playboat this winter and want to get it out in the water! I have a bombproof roll, but definitely have a lot to learn about paddling. Are there any good groups to get involved with / does anyone want to get out and paddle??

Any tips people have on how to get into the paddling scene out here would be great!

Try going to the Poudre River. Park at Picnic Rock (A takeout/picnic area). You will meet a lot of beginning/Int.Kayakers, share shuttles and boat together. The run is short (a mile or two) but it has plenty of play water and challenge. Best whitewater fix close to town. The upper river is way more advanced, get good info. before you go up river.
Sounds good. Thanks for the info. I'll check that spot out.
Colorado Whitewater Association host trips and a great way to met paddlers in the area.

only if you plan on sitting in eddys and/or collecting gear more than actually paddling. I understand it's a beginner group… but IMO putting more than 2 or 3 beginners together on the water is recipe for a cluster*ck. I remember CW putting on before us on foxton a couple years ago and we got 3 laps in before they reached the take-out. Don't get me wrong they're a good group of people, but if you already have a roll you're going to be bored fast. Small groups will go much smoother, be safer, and you will learn more.
