I know this is the wrong forum but I need a lot of advice. I Have a shoulder injury and am going to change paddles to help the cause. I'm looking for a paddle with some flex that people find works great for creeking primarily. I'd be willing to buy a separate paddle for play. I've only used straight shaft up until now but am willing to use anything. All opinions are appreciated. Thanks. If the "Blumpkin King" is out there here's a shout.

I have started to paddle a bentshaft exclusively. I use to get elbow problems when I paddled many days a week with a straightshft. I had tennins elbow where the tendon starts to shorten. Now I have no pain while or after I boat. I know you said you have a bad shoulder but this shows you that a bentshaft can help many sorts of injurys. I have heard that that people with bad shoulders like bentshafts as well. I guess it's just a matter of time before my shoulders blow out though. In the beginning of last year I had three paddles. And now I only paddle one. I have an ATX 3 for sale if your interested. It took me some time to find the right bentshaft for me. take your time and reasearch what will fit your need. i use one of the cheap seven2 paddles, with plastic blades. it has worked great. i have had shoulder problems in the past, and have no pain from the paddle. havent use it to play, just creekin, and i highly recommend it. good luck

I have an AT paddle and I have not looked back. I definatly recommed the AT bentshaft.

i switched to an at bent shaft about 6 years ago due to constant "cycts in the wrist" and other naggling problems...since then, i haven't had a problem. i definitely get a 'stronger' feel. i finally? broke my at this spring and now had a double diamond (werner) and dig it. the glass (flex) shaft of the at is a great paddle and worth checking out.

Over the hill and still (thankfully) injury free...

Maybe you should consider a very thorough warmup routine for your shoulder in addition to a flexy paddle. Obviously, don't jump back in there until everything is healed. I carry a 5' long piece of latex surgical tubing with me in my gear bag, tie it around a tree and give my shoulders a good ol' workout before even jumping in my boat. It's funny 'cause the older I get, the more I want to paddle, yet the more I've got to be careful about getting hurt. Somedays it takes me an hour to stretch and warm up and hydrate before jumping in the playhole -- but I can usually keep up with punks half my age.
