I have recently resorted to gripping my control side of the shaft with a straight wrist, in line with the forearm instead of cocking the wrist back to line the knuckles with the blade edge as was taught when I started paddling.

Initially this seemed to place some strain on my right [control ] wrist but it went away when I rotated the paddle blade on that side so that the powerface was about 20-30 degrees fronm the vertical. I was able to paddle OK on both sides without any noticeable cocking of the right wrist at time of entering the left blade into the water. This holds good for any amount of feather from 0-30 degrees. {my paddle has changeable feathering ].

Does anyone here use the straight wrist/forearm grip and have any input on this?
