The NRS locks are super expensive because they break oars.

Oarlocks don't break oars. Whoever is pulling on them does... can't learn if you don't listen. Yes, some are better/more efficient than others, but no oarlock (pins&clips are not oarlocks) will break more oars than any other unless it fixes the oar in one orientation...

Slop is your friend. Find the catch and go with it - work on entry and exit (find videos online of rowing sculls and figure it out). If you can't feather, you're losing efficiency...

I disagree. Brass open oarlocks are made of brass because 1) they are tunable and 2) they release a vertical oar rather than it just snapping.

Also feathering is a myth. This isn't Cornell, Skully, we have current.
