I've done Northgate to a takeout a few miles upstream of Saratoga. Very nice. Northgate canyon has class 3. A couple of rapids go to class 4 and flip rafts at high water.

Below that you get a few miles of class 2, then mostly flat.

Some URLs that I found in the past:
http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/mbr/recreation/riverrafting/index.shtml
flyshop.com/rmwest/rwnorthplatte/index1.html
and the river guide at cascadeoutfitters.com

I recommend that you float all the way past Bennet Peak campground to the next takeout, which is close to the highway (I don't recall the name, sorry). Otherwise you spend more time driving than floating. Makes a nice 3-day trip.

Hope this helps.

If I'm not mistaken, the take out would be Treasure Island. Last I knew there was some limited camping there to, including on the island. If its high water you'd float to Saratoga purdy quick. It's totally flat down to I-80. Fun, lazy, drink a lot a Mike's, float in a canoe, but a raft? I don't know, I don't raft. :D We did a 2 1/2 day, 2 night trip from Bennet down to I-80.

Bennett Peak put-in or take out requires a long drive on the French Creek road, which is dirt, but not bad. It would be a nice place to camp, its beautiful.

I do klnow there is a lot of private land and some of those folks take it pretty seriously. Sorry I can't be more specific, but I had a friend who was cited for trespassing.

north-gate to I-80

That would be a long but cool float. You could really have some fun right now at these water levels and the entire river is fishing good from the Gate to I-80. It can be done in about 5 nights-6days to really enjoy it or you could do it faster. The water below Saratoga gets flat and slow (relatively speaking) and will take two nights to get to I-80. I think you are on to something if you have the time.

These folks that reply are kind of correct... but it's great to see our Valley still a bit of a mystery and scary to some. It's not that we don't like green liscense plates it's just the attitudes we get from some of these folks. 60% of my income is from people in the front range and our town is growing with front rangers looking for that vacation home. Yeah some of our ranchers like to carry and shoot guns when they see rafts. It's easy to tell the folks from CO on the river cause they have these nice rafts completely loaded down. Most locals travel really light. But it's a site to have my clients fishing out of my drift-boat, and to have a floatilla of rafts in full on white-water gear come floating by, in flat water. There is only 9 mile of white-water on this river and at that there is only a handfull of drops and a few wave-trains. But the water level needs to be 1200csf for fun white-water. Less is LAME... no joke. It's really too late for white-water. We really didn't have a season this year to be honest. We do white-water trips and only had a week or so of water over 1200csf.

Good luck and let me know if you need anything. I have afly shop in the Saratoga Inn. RP
