Newest Gen Superstar Sizing

Hi, I am what I would call an intermediate WW kayaker. I paddle mostly III/IV, enjoy some playboating with river running. I am 6' and weigh 190lbs with no clothing on. With gear etc. I am sure i am over 200. I can't afford buying a new kayak and am considering buying a used 2013 superstar. The stated weight range is 180-230 or so. My weight should put me in the low-mid range. However, I am not super tall, so I am wondering if I will be swimming in the Superstar and if I will have any trouble getting the trim right. Also, I was wondering if anyone could tell me from personal experience how the 2013 superstar does downriver.

Any advice on whether this would be a good kayak for me would be greatly appreciated.

I think it will be a good fit unless you have sz 15 wafflestompers.. I cant speak for the 2013s, but i have had a 2012 Superstar for 2 years now and i absolutely love it, although I got to say, since i am a III/IV paddler as well, I am really interested in the 2015 4fun for higher water levels.
(i have come to terms with the fact that i am a lowwater playboater, and a highwater riverrunner. Its so much more comfortable for me to be in my superhero in big water.)

Also Because i am at the high end of the weight range, 230lbs now, was 240 last year, I cannot put much extra weight or the boat is too stern heavy. (i am in the habit of always bringing throwbag, pinkit, small 1st aid and H20)

You shouldnt have that problem as much. as far as for down river runs with the superstars. they handle very, very well, but it is still a lil spud of a boat, the potential to get thrashed is always there, but they roll like a champ and are much more stable and friendly then the 2012-13 gen rockstars, for instance. you can pop huge stern squirts and ends pretty much at will, even in minimal current, much less in stong current. I can think of at least 3 friends in your height range or one taller that rock the superstar.

Def initely expect to be aggressive, and maybe a little spooked initially, then you will be super psyched if youre ready for getting after it on the down river play.

I am looking forward to taking my superstar out on the Ark next week, at low flows, whereas it didnt even come off the truck in May, (cause i am seriously a high water playboating weenie)
Plus for reals, we were having a blast running Browns at 1500, Fractions at 2100, and the Taylor at 700ish.... Superhero/Zen/Karma/Remix was all I wanted to be in for (High to me) water....

So yeah, got to really get in it with thin shoes, ( Astral brewers work for me, Or Vivobarefoot running shoes are a great option too) and see how you actually fit, but i would def. go for it.... IMHO you wont regret it.

Thanks for the input, I am leaning towards getting the superstar now!
Def sit in it first...I am 6' 180# and the '13 Superstar is not comfortable at all; the knee pocket is just weird. The All Star on the other hand felt perfect. Pre-'13 was the opposite.
Another opinion...

I'm 6'1 about 205 without gear, size 12 shoe. The superstar feels huge for a playboat (Comfortable but huge). You definitely won't be swimming in it. Maybe not bad for more of a river runner playboat. I ended up with a large Jitsu because it was sort of an in-between of an all-star and a superstar. It does fine downriver as well. Definitely Demo. As far as downriver I'm sure it's great. I paddle class IV with a bunch of people that paddle all-stars.
Thanks for all the replies everyone! I ended up buying the Superstar. It is definitely bigger than I expected, but I think I will end up just using it like a river running playboat like street doctor mentioned. I have a couple more questions, though.

First, I don't like happy feet so I was wondering how it would be best to make my own foam bulkhead? I looked at instructions on kayakoutfitting.com and they did not make a whole lot of sense. It looks like Jackson sells a kind of one size fits all foam bulkhead, but it is like $55...

Secondly, which skirt would you recommend? It looks like it will need a XXL in most brands, but it looks like it MAY work with an XL in bomber gear? Does anyone have any experience with the sprayskirt sizing for the Superstar?

You can squeeze an XL bomber gear skirt on there, will just be a little tight.
