I'm new to Denver and I'm looking for a group to paddle with on weekends/after work. I've been paddling off and on for about 12 years and really enjoy class IV-V rivers and play boating. I live right on the Platte river downtown but don't have a car so can't really go very far. If anyone knows of any groups or is heading to Golden from Denver and can fit an extra or would just like to paddle sometime on the Platte please let me know. Thanks, I can't wait to get back out there!

boating partners

Hi Liza,
I'm not a class 4/5 boater, I'm more like a class 3 boater but I work in golden right next to the play park there and I'm looking for people to go kayak after work.

I'm starting to surf, haven't done much playing other than that yet tho.

Let me know if you're interested.

Lauren,

I'd definitely like to meet up sometime and I can help you out with your roll etc (I used to teach). However, the "I don't have a car thing" is a problem. If I do find some trasportation out to Golden I will be in touch. By the way, do you know of anyone selling a kayak other than those who have posted on mountainbuzz?

boat & switch

I'm heading to paddle tomorrow afternoon and could give a lift- probably to Bear Creek a IV-Vish affair near Morrison. Will be having lunch by the confluence and may hop in there too.

As for the switch, I love mine so, but for smaller paddlers a witch might be a better fit.

Once Bailey turns on, I will be trying to get there twice a week in the mid/late afternoon M-F. It's beautiful, mostly wilderness IV/IV+ creeking with a couple Vs thrown in. It's what makes Denver livable after mid-July. I'd keep an eye out on the Buzz for folks looking for people to join up on trips, too - you can easily get all the way to CB or Durango for the weekend that way. Also I think Mountain Miser is going to try to revive the mid-week trip to Bailey that folks used to gather there for.

You should check out Confluence if you live right there - buy some Doc's Proplugs (wise for CO anyway), noseclips and alcohol to drop in your ears and go for it. The best levels are 700-850 (or thereabouts) for the second hole up from the bottom, and 700-1000 for the wave-hole at the 20th St skatepark. When it rains like mad for a few hours, pray that the last weir on Cherry Creek is in the up position, as it forms the best hole in the state, riverwide with wave and hole sections, every move possible, super retentive but not at all scary retentive. This happens about once a year. Trestle Wave down at the RR trestle (duh) is gets really fun in the low-mid 1000s. I forget the exact best flows, but it is superfast and a hard wave to spin and stay on. Despite the fact that it is hard to stay on, everyone still goes because it is just so much fun to surf.

If you start paddling Confluence once more regulars are going, you'll also meet people. I will shoot you a PM when I go next, or you can call me whenever, since I go fairly often. I'm in Steamboat all next week but may hit the SP Friday afternoon depending on the level.

kayaking Denver

I was thinking about going out to paddle at Confluence Park tonight at 6:30ish. I'll be heading over after I close up the shop. As far as meeting up with paddlers it shouldn't be any problems Denver has an awesome paddling network. People of all levels and abilities.

If you looking for used gear. We have a ton of used boats. Stop on by and check them out.

I think I may have posted my request a little early. I'm still working on finding a boat out here. I've given myself until this weekend to find one and then I'll be out at Confluence as much as possible after work. And I'd also like to get out of town and into some of the biger water on weekends. I haven't done much creek boating in the past but it is something I've always wanted to get into. Don, I'll try to get out of work early and stop by the shop, if not tonight I'll definitely get there this weekend. Thanks

Liza,

I'm new to Denver as well and looking to get out paddling soon. I'd be happy to pick you up on my way to Confluence or to Golden. Have you looked into joining CWWA? Anyway...feel free to email if you're interested. [email protected]
