So my ten year old son is currently approaching the 90 lb. Mark and has an astral otter pfd and is gonna need new one soon he's close to about 5' 00" tall and im wondering if he'll fit into a small blue jacket and hoping it'll last a few years before he would grow out of it , i tried my xl on him and it's way to big, does anybody have any feed back on this or recomendations?
Thanks

NRS Ninja/Vapor/Ion.
Most are on closeout...but the foam/shell is the same size. L/XL/XXL just have longer straps. They're reasonably compact and close-fitting.

got a Ninja for my 18yo (130lb) daughter for Christmas.

I'm guessing it's the side "wraps" on the bluejacket that made it too big for him?

Yes the side straps would not get tight enough.
I'll definately check them out and as long as one comes in blue he'll like it Haha. What kind of pfd did your daughter have prior to the ninja?

She had an old NRS youth PFD way-way back, then wore a neoprene shell type III waterski PFD until she was about your son's age/size, then she either stole my wife's old Lotus Lola, or wore a small adult Stohlquist (again, shell was slightly too big)

She saw the Ninja on clearance last summer. I didn't grab one then for $59. Then with 2 months to go until Christmas, couldn't find a S/M one for under $100. Ended up buying her a L/XL for ~$100, but I see they're mostly back for clearance prices now. I'd have expected they'd have another version out on the market by now if they were clearancing those models at the end of last season.

My kid is a stick, and he looks the same from the side as the front. He is also eating me out of house and home. There have been multiple days that he has had a full dinner, and then gone back and had ANOTHER full dinner. We joke about boarding school because it would be a win to have someone else feed him.
I was about to recommend the MTI BOB, but it maxes out at the 90 lbs range. I think the ninjas, and the astral YTV and Ringo are great to fit snug, without crushing the wind out of them.

There is a kokatat XXS that might work well. I forget what the model is. It says 75-125lbs on it. Has a pocket or two and a lash tab for a knife, front zip. Got it for the PH on my last grand trip who was a beanpole, 5'3, 90lbs. I didn't like how a regular small fit her and was worried about it coming over her head in big water without a crotch strap. I'll see if I can find the model.
