Heading south sometime either this weekend or next and was wondering if anyone could recommend their favorites in the <V range. Want to do the Red since it's up and it sounds like it's rare one to have water. What about others? Lower box, pilar, come to mind, but I haven't heard much talk about Conejos, Upper Chama, or Santa Cruz. Any advice on these runs would be appreciated. Thanks!

Upper Chama....more wood that water, Conejos.....look out for fences (wouldn't recomend either of these two runs). The Santa Cruz is good right now, the lower Chama, the Lower box, Race Course are all running along with the Piedra, and San Juan and everything around Durango.
If you make it over to Durango check out the third gorge of lime. Beautiful class IV+ creeking, with one shitty portage around a log. Eddy hop and you'll see everything noteworthy, with the exception of the landslide drop which is basically unrunnable at the top. But you'll know when to scout, it's the second drop in there. Then paddle out to the bottom of the Upper Animas and you have an option of paddling Rockwood.
The shuttle is short and easy, but you have to hike in to Lime at Purgatory flats, and out at the Rockwood box.
A lot of other stuff was running too, Hermosa, Piedra, and whatever...
