Hoping to run the Encampment on Sat. the 18th and was wondering if the roads in are clear, especially the way in from Steamboat, but either would work.

Did it last Sunday Only way in was the Blackhall Mt Road ( near Riverside) It was fine but a little greasy in spots should be dried out by this weekend. 550 was still closed as was its continuation from Steamboat This warm week could change that status Call the campground or the FS (307 326 5258) River was great watch for wood as always There is a vertical oar in the busy stuff below D Alley

Thanks for the info, I've paddled this section a few times but I'm not familiar with that road. would it require a 4x4 with clearence or could a awd subaru make it in. Thanks again Dan

Road open

I just spoke with the FS (thanks for posting the phone number!) and someone broke through the last drift yesterday (from the Encampment side - I'm certain the Steamboat side is still closed). I don't think you can camp right at the put-in any more, and no word on the condition of the dirt road that continues upstream to the meadow (the one on river left). No word on whether it takes a 4 WD to get through the drift.

ran it yesterday. roads are good to go for a subaru from riverside and encampment routes to the put in. have fun.

we ran it monday from the encampment side as well its good to go and it needs to be run quick because the water may not last long. The guage on the river near the putin was reading 3.4 feet.
