An hour north is the Rio Grande. Local play run is called the Race Course and runs all year. Class 3 with some good play. Park and play at sleeping Beauty wave-hole at 500cfs and above(as it is now), lower levels work also...Season for the racecourse is year round. Spring run off is from about April thru end of June. If it is a good snow year, the local creeks are sick. 3-4 hrs to Durango and salida colorado for when our run off is done-easy drive. NM has a great group of paddlers. Give me a shout at 505-670-8599..Atom...
PS, Taos Mountain Outfitters is the only NM shop, ask for Jonah...

Racecourse is year-round but you don't see many people up there between November and March, water temp under 40 now. But February afternoons are pretty warm here.

Another spot not as good for play but a scenic II+ is Rio Chama day run up above Abiquiu. Free access, camping, etc. Its not running yet, but they get dam releases most week-ends in the summer. High water there is April/May.
