I've been hearing about people using these Mr Clean Magic Erasers to clean their rubber and plastic, and it working like a dream

Does anybody have an opinion about whether or not they are harmful to boats over time?

I have used them to get stubborn frame marks off my boat with no apparent detrimental effects.

Yeah, Melamine is a funny compound, the Chinese were using it in animal foods a few years back to boost the nitrogen content and pretend it was protein. It is also used in a lot of plastic dishware. A rafting kitchen set probably has a few pieces made from Melamine. The "magic eraser" is a foam version of the same stuff.

If I remember correctly, it is pretty benign chemically unless you mix it with chlorine. It's just not so great when you eat lots of it, hence the concern over Chinese dog food.
