Putting on next Sunday to raft up my wife and 3 boys, part of a larger group of 18. Will I regret not strapping my playboat on the gear rig? I can only foresee this being an issue if we should camp next to a glassy wave or friendly foam pile. Am I not picturing the right river?

If you're not in it daily (i.e. the head oarsman for your family raft) then don't bring it. Many of the best waves will be catch on the fly, and maybe you'll get one campsite with a riverside surf wave.

Did a Main/Lower last year, was supposed to trade off oarsman/kayaker duties with a buddy. He got hurt, I rowed, kids paddled my SuperFun on the river, but nobody used it while in camp other than kid roll practice in the eddy.

Leave the boat space for more beer or a tiki tent or volleyball poles.
