While I don't own one, I've been on trips with people that do and they worked great. Although they are pricey, I will get one when I have some extra cash.

carbon tanks

I have seen a few of these, they are pretty sweet.

I just cant justify spending $100 for a tank that will get all jacked up from sand and grime. They are lighter, but what is five pounds on top of 500-1000lb of gear, beer, etc?

They are nice due to having no sharp edges, can just throw it on the rubber.

They would be sweet for an ultralight trip on a tiny boat....

I have one. It is great! you can see how much propane is in it, so no more guessing how much is left. There are no sharp edges, so they pack more places. I hope I never find out, but the website says they were developed for RV use, and will break down and leech the propane in a fire situation, thus never explode. As for getting jacked up from sand and grime... never had a problem like that with any tank.
