While we wait for the possible development of a whitewater park in Fort Collins, nature seems to have combined with the County's contractors to create two features for us in LaPorte.

At Lions Park, West of Overland Trail, just south of LaPorte, we now have two small wave features. I haven't tried them out yet, so can't tell if they are any good. There are two formal access points to the river, one at the steps where the waves are, and one further upstream. You will need exit the river above the bridge (on river left). Please be mindful of the re-vegetation project. There are picnic tables, BBQs, toilets and parking available at the site - which is also on the Poudre River/Pleasant Valley bike paths.

If you decide to check them out, PLEASE do not paddle below the Overland Trail bridge - all the lands downstream of the bridge are privately-owned, posted, and policed! And there is a dam below Taft Hill bridge that makes downstream transit unfeasible at this time. If we ever want the Lions Park site developed further, we need to prove that kayakers are good citizens, respectful of neighboring properties, other park users, and signage (e.g. restoration area, keep off). Please post any updates on the viability of these little features.
