We are looking for paddlers to help improve the health of the kayaking community!

Dr. Mia Derstine, Emergency Medicine Physician & Wilderness Medicine Fellow at the University of Colorado Anschutz, is leading a study on hearing loss in whitewater kayakers.
Please help us by filling out this brief (~1 min), anonymous survey.*

We are a Colorado-based research group, but are interested in kayakers across the country.
We will post all results, and will follow-up with important prevention & treatment info.

Thank you!

Given the uber sensitive pc nature of gender politics these days, it's not surprising that someone conducting research would feel obliged to provide more than 2 options for gender identity on a research survey. I can see how asking about a persons gender identity on a survery about hearing loss in kayakers might seem arbitrary, but it's actually quite relevant, given that, in the broader population, gender differences in hearing loss are significant. According to a 2008 study from Johns Hopkins University, men were found to be five and a half times more likely to lose their hearing than women. Other related studies weren't quite as stark, but still showed that men suffer hearing loss at least 2-3 times as much as women do. It would be interesting to find out if those differences persist or vary by gender in kayakers.
