Durango, CO – Animas River Days flows into Durango, June 8-10, with whitewater races, live music, and family and dog friendly activities! There is something for everyone during the three-day celebration that honors the Animas River.

Events will kick-off on June 8th with the Second Annual Local Media Contest, featuring the best of local adventures through film and photography, and the Reel Paddling Film Festival, an international film tour with the best kayaking, canoeing, SUP and fishing action of the year. Doors open at the Smiley Building at 6 pm.

Saturday heats up with the return of whitewater slalom and boatercross. We haven’t forgotten our fury friends either - dog fetching, costumes and best trick contests will brighten every pet-lovers day.

Don’t miss the beer garden with all-day live music starting a noon. Featured bands are: Poetic Mind, Six Dollar String Band and Free Play.

San Juan Citizens Alliance and the Southwest Conservation Corps will be hosting streamside learning opportunities about the importance of river systems, clean water and aquatic life.

There will be lots of kids activities too. Durango Discovery Museum will bring the Solar Roller, the Museum's mobile science discovery center focused on energy science literacy with hands on exhibits. Also, come by and visit WOW Bubbles, Durango Nature’s Studies booth, get your face painted, see the story walk along the river bath and participate in the bark boat race.

The evening starts on Saturday, 5 pm, with the much anticipated River Days Costumed Parade, which is followed by a post-parade party at Ska Brewing and features former members of Cosmic Accident and A Dub Rock Band.

Sunday will keep fans on the edge of the river with the downriver race, kayak and inflatable rodeos, and Up-Down Paddle Board races. Winners of the “Clean-up the Animas” contest also will be announced.

Don't miss the Boardworks SUP demos through 4CRS Riversports and the Hala Gear SUP demos (all demos from booth at Santa Rita Park).

For more information, go to Kayak, Canoe, and Down River Races: Durango Colorado - Animas River Days or call 970.779.1547.

How is the turn out these days with all the river cops and no booze allowed. All the people I know that used to go, stopped because of the piglets and their laws.

Cops

We expect a huge turn-out for the parade. We had several hundred rafts, kayakers, inflatable toys, homemade boats, crazy characters in costumes the last couple years... it is always a crazy, good time on the rio!

To my knowledge, no one has had any problems with policing on the river. The cops are around but not bugging the river enthusiasts!

And, we are offering BUZZ BUS rides from Santa Rita and 4CRS to Ska Brewing for the after-parade party this year!

Beer Garden

Also, we have the Ska Beer Garden at Santa Park again this year so don't forget to stop by and grab a beer and watch slalom, boaterX, inflatable and kayak rodeos and so much more. Live music all day in the beer garden!

Bad rumor from a couple years ago. Cops have not been a problem at all on the Animas, especially before tubing season. To all the people who used to go, come on back, although the water is low, we still have more than the rest of the state (except for a couple drainages that typically have more anyway).

I really would like to have a RafterX race and a SUPX race in addition to the BoaterX this year too, so come on out!

Starting a new bad rumor? To say that you have more water than the rest of the state is more than a rumor...it's a lie! While the rest of the state was (and still is) getting hit with april and may snows, the San Juans have, for the most, part been missed.

Sorry...I had to call you out. That said, this is a fun festival if you're into that sort of thing...

In 2013, not 2012! Dude, why call me out on a post a year old? That's lame.

Apology accepted. It should be better than ever this year with food and beer on both days! Also, I am introducing an open class for the BoaterX (read TuberX, DuckyX, etc) and a "villian" rafter sort of like 8-ball style. Hope you can make it.
