Hi All,
Hope yall are having a great weekend outside! I wish I was out there too
Several folks have emailed asking why the forums went down Thursday and why weve got this new format, blablabla. Ill explain.
The change to a new format was a spur of the moment decision that stemmed from frustration when the forums crashed last Thursday. The previous format has exceeded its capacity, and database corruptions like Thursdays are becoming regular occurrences. The thought of slowly migrating to new software crossed my mind, but instead decided to switch to a more stable version ASAP. Whats more, the new system offers much greater flexibility plus some additional features that I feel are necessary.
With the new forum come new colors. These colors are temporary as I build new templates over the next few weeks.
The Old Forum is still available via hyperlink at the top of each page. You can still access old posts but cannot post new messages on the old system. I will eventually write a script to import all the old messages into the new system. This wont happen for a little bit though, as I have work deadlines to meet beforehand. Outdoormikeg, you offered to help lets talk if youre still up for it..
Thecraw, you brought up the topic of Member Registration. Yes, everyone will have to re-register to become a member of the new forums. Only members will be allowed to post new topics or reply to existing ones. This is done in an attempt to increase the quality of the content and eliminate abuse from folks posting under multiple aliases or using bogus email addresses.
Along with the new format I would like to introduce the idea of member-moderated forums. Several folks have expressed being annoyed with reading abusive--or just pointless--posts. I dont have an opinion either way, and I dont have the time to take it on. However, if you have an opinion and think that a member-moderated forum is or is not a good idea, then check the next post (immediately below) and cast your vote. Lets see what you all think and we can go from there
Thanks for your patience and look for upgrades to the site throughout the winter!
Cheers,
Brian (aka frenchdog)
