Landed a job for a few years in Bali and while I'm excited to surf a lot, I know there's tons of creeks out there to paddle. When I was there last I talked with an expat from Cali who said that Indo was just FULL of great class IV/V that is untouched but that you kinda have to work to get to it.

anyone ever paddle down there? I will have a car so I should be able to do some exploring....

I went to Bali and Java with the wife on our honeymoon a few years ago - without a boat - and I'd say you'll be kicking yourself if you don't find a way to get a creekboat down there. We did one day commercial raft trip on a sorta-fun river outside of Ubud, but we drove over so many steep creeks throughout Bali and Java that I really want to go back as a sans-wife trip and explore. Lots a gradient and lots of rain. We hired a car WITH a driver for the day for $50, so shuttles are not a problem.

Oh, and I did haul my surfboard all the way from the US through Bali and Java, got completely skunked on surf the whole time (10 days), and the board got swiped by the Jakarta baggage handlers on the way home. Find a way to get your boat to/from on a container.

Yeah, some stuff I saw on Flores looked pretty epic and clear of wood. I am going to have to figure out a way to get a creeker down there, I am thinking of planning a trip to NZ and bringing one back maybe. Good to hear Bali has some steep rivers too, I'll have time to scope them out. Now I just have to convince paddling buddies to make the trip down....

Thanks for the info, I'll take some pictures down there and post them this winter!
