Illinois River 2023- Memorial Day and Wood?

840 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  BenSlaughter
Hey Buzzers,

Longtime lurker, first time poster. After an epic Sierra/west coast snow-pack, I was hoping to hop on the Illinois river around memorial day. This is traditionally past the usual flow window, but this year is special. Does anybody have any strongly-informed crystal ball predictions?

I also heard that there is a large log in the river around Green Wall. Can anybody confirm this? That would definitely be a game changer.

Thanks in advance.

Crystal ball is right.
Lots depends on what the weather does in the next couple weeks. Still lotsa snow visible from the river, but it was HOT in SoOr last this weekend. If it stays cool, rains, it may well run into June 🤯. But it seems like most of the last few years, its pretty well been done by mid May... 🤞🤞

When did you hear about this log? We ran The Greenwall on 4/22 and it was clear sailing.
I talked to Courtney at Northwest Rafting Company. Zach Collier posted it on the Whitewater Guidebook forum as well.

Oh that's interesting!
I just looked at the video he put up.
Could wreck someone's day, forsure!
(Especially for some asshole like me who doesn't scout...)

Edit to add, the water went up quite a bit after the 27th, should have flushed that log. 🤞 🤞
I heard it'll be 870 CFS and 94 degrees over Memorial Weekend.

I know someone with a cabin at oak flat and sounds like there are a couple of significant road hazards that may affect trailer traffic. I always avoid trailers on that trip,if possible, and put in at the floating bridge.

Good luck and embrace to shitshow as it’s likely to be the next version of the overloved owhyee.

The real entertainment will be had by anyone that runs greenwall early and sets up a spectator stand at the scout. Bonus points for blackmail pics of the show.

That is a piece of water that will determine if you have the skills you proclaim.

Have fun and be Safe!!!!

I can’t believe this actually came out to be correct.

It's only going to be about 80 degrees on Saturday. I'll try harder next year.

It's enough for a small-medium raft, but it's not any extra.
