That's cool. Two years ago on mlk day I saw the Lochsa do a similar thing. It didn't have the big wave, but out if almost nowhere the river was filled with ice like that, plus a bunch if wood. Good thing it was in the drive back up AFTER our run.
When I was a kid an ice dam broke free on the Allegheny River through Oil City, PA and took out every parking lot and the rear end of every business that backed up against the river. It shook this up for sure and how they dealt with upstream ice.
