I did a few days on the Payette last summer. It was great, and it seems like there's a LOT of paddling in a small radius. Is there still water there late August/early September? I'm loooking at spending about a week on the river around then (yeah, yeah, yeah, not ideal time for boating, but that's the time I've got). Any ideas for other places?

Usually that is a great time for the Payettes because they are dam controlled for irrigation. Flows from Cascade Resev and Deadwood Resev. or fairly predictable. Also predicitable warm water.

I was paddling the Main Payette and South Fork into November last year. As the water comes down, the lines on the SF get more complicated, but the water is a lot less pushy. The Main gets smaller and simpler, but there's still fun to be had. I know the North Fork is still runnable into the fall, but haven't paddled it so can't comment beyond that.
