Wondering if anyone out there has had a hip replacement and if it affected their kayaking careers?

i.e. after recovery were you back at it as you were previous to the surgery?

Broken hip and kayaking go together well, hip is protected as long as you stay in boat! I did mine in 2011 and no issues so far. Good luck, determination will trump discomfort.

There is a guy in GJ who had hip surgery and has been back on the water for several years and is still paddling as far as I know. Guessing he is mid to early 60's and I don't think it slowed him down too much, but I never asked. He also still Teli skis, so I would guess the prognosis isn't too bad.

Replacement surgery won't stop you

I had one hip and both knees replaced in the summer of 2006. Absolutely no change in my paddling except for I can sit in my boat all day without pain (hip) and can comfortably carry down steeper put-ins pain-free (knees). Changed my life. I never think about it.
