Sure is.......Gunnison river is flowing great right now.....The Taylor river is great for thrills as well.
On the East you can do CB South -> Almont, watch out for fences. On the Taylor you can do Slot -> Almont, on the Gunny you can do Almont -> Blue Mesa, on the Lake Fork you can do Lake City -> Blue Mesa.

Lots of miles to be had around here, the question is what do you want?
Is either hitchhiking the shuttle or meeting other boaters for shuttles easy on the Taylor and Gunnison? Will also be in area July 5 or 6 with 13' cat and wanting to hit something NEW. Thanks
Hitchhiking on the Gunny is easy. Wear your PFD with your thumb out, it helps get a ride faster (seriously). As far as the Taylor, its possible, but not always a quick bet. Sometimes I get a ride after 30 seconds, sometimes it's 20 minutes. But you will no matter what. I suggest going for it on both rivers.
And the Arkansas is just over Monarch Pass, a wide variety of day trips there too.

In 20+ years I sure I have 200+ days on the Arkansas.
This year I'm looking for new runs.
Had planned on the Taylor, Gunnison, Lake Fork & Rio Grande.
But I might have waited too long for the Lake Fork and Rio.

Hope the Taylor is still running this weekend.
And Yeti, thanks for all your info on these runs and I always carry my PFD when I hitch!
Have met many other boaters that way.
Rich scratch the Lake Fork ( 2 riverwide strainers on best rapids in run ) and Rio Grande from the list completely. The Taylor is still running great for all sections and will be until August. Run the Taylor from new put-in to 5 mile Bridge (great class III to III+) run. If you have time I'll try and organize other great runs (Gunny Gorge) in our area with the Montrose Gang of River Runners. I'll be out of town doing the Crystal and Roaring Fork over the 4th ans 5th, but should be back by the 6th. Give me a jingle at 970-497-6512 and we'll chat about all other possible runs still going. Got some other boaters coming in from out of state to join in the fun.
Can you elaborate a little more about the Lake Fork strainers? Which section? I was looking for a mellow float below Lake City- no intention of floating to Blue Mesa. Is there a 8-10 Mike section that's runnable right now? 15' Maravia

Just ran the section from Devil's Creek to the Gate campground. The Lake Fork "Box". 11 miles? Very beautiful class 2. We had 850 cfs or so on Sat. Don't recall any strainers of note. We were in kayaks and one duck. Highly recommended...
Too tight for a 15' raft? I've looked at it a few times and thought it was close....

Yep, Phil took the words right out of my mouth, the Lake Fork Box Canyon run is it. Pull it up on Eddy Flower Colorado runs, gives good description of run and put-ins. I still use Eddy Flower site alot, because it is much better in describing runs and legistics, than AW site.

Oar rig would be tight probably but I bet it would go.

And there are several low head bridges that would be a big concern on the Box canyon run. Well like I said earlier just stick with Gunnison river near Almont, and runs near town of Gunnison. Much, much closer and much more safer.
I've done those Gunnison runs many times- looking to mix in something new.

Just to clear up some nomenclature as they names are kind of confusing....

The Lake Fork Box is the class II run from the High Bridge Access to The Gate CG.

The Lake Fork Canyon is the class III+ run from Redbridge CG to Gateview CG.

Kind of confusing, I know!
Thanks for that- it is confusing when you don't know the area that well.

I will be in the Gunnison area from the 6th til the 10th boating the Gunni and the Taylor.
Minimum flows?

Hi I'd like to float the Lake Fork Box section, from High Bridge to the Gate and was wondering whether it would still be floatable for a 13' raft with fishing frame. I saw on a BLM site that it is floatable down to 300 cfs, but the Eddyflower site suggests 600 cfs as a minimum. Thanks for the help!
