bony

I think it's getting too bony. I was thinking of going there this weekend, but not sure that it'd be worth it at under 500cfs. I ran it a few times last year in the 600s and it was fun:

At this point it's running 470, too low I think.

I heard rumours (see Milo's "HIGH water flows in the BLACK CANYON!" post) that the Gorge might have 2,300cfs this weekend, in which case I have no idea what it's like -- I only ran it 3-4 times, and never higher than 1,200.

Does anyone else know what it's like at 2,300? And are the rumours true?

Maybe not ideal flows, but I think you could still have a good trip at 475cfs. Each time I explore the lower limits of runs, I have been surprised what is runnable and still fun. Maybe I am just used to drought conditions by now. Have run Foxton at 160, Piedra at 350, etc.

True...

Very true -- I ran Clear Creek around 75cfs and the Numbers and Pine Creek down in the 90's.... and they're still a lot of fun. Ha ha, I'll probably run Gunny either way this weekend and hope for deep eddies :)

tom, i hope that MR. BLM man wasn't just bs'ing me!!!! it may be this weekend maybe not.. the black and the gunny gorge always have a fall season.....we just are in a bad drought.....i have hit the gorge at all levels except under 600cfs.. i am sure it is still fun.. at higher flows there are great waves and good play... the highest i got it was at 5300 cfs...monster waves and holes... we were rookies and it was super fun....my buddy dislocated his shoulder and threw some pretty impressive split wheels and loops.... before clay wright was doing it!!!!! at 500cfs it will still be plenty deep!!!!!maybe some visual stimulants would help....

I have run it at 300 and it is fine. Not much for whitewater but a pretty canyon. Bring lots of beer. :D

I ran the gorge last weekend near 500 and it was not boney at all. I am looking to get a group together to go back on the 23rd for the "big release" are you interested, or know others who may be?
