Glenwood Springs might actually get a whitewater park, finally!!

After nearly six years of work, we are getting close to getting approval for our whitewater park project. Years of hard work have finally paid off...hopefully. The town of Glenwood Springs created an official Whitewater Park Ad Hoc committee, designed to see this project through to the final stages, earlier this year.

Now the time has finally arrived. The committee is going in front of City Council Thursday August 3rd at 7:00 pm, with a finalized design by Nick Turner. We are looking for support in any form possible. Just having numbers at the meeting on thursday will help show public support for the project. If you cannot attend the meeting, you can also send letters of support to [email protected]. If all goes well, and we can get approval from city council, we should be able to construct this winter.

The design consists of a hole-feature and a wave feature located in West Glenwood Springs downstream of the confluence of the Roaring Fork and Colorado Rivers. The feature should have at least 2,000 cfs running through it most of the year. If you want any more information about the design or location, please contact us.

If you want to know how you can get involved to help, please contact us:

Brian at Glenwood Canyon Kayak (970) 928-9949 or email: [email protected], please say something like Whitewater Park Inquiry in the subject line.

Thanks to everyone who sent letters of support, they are going to be a big help when we go infront of city council tonight. If anyone wants to show up, we are first on the docket at 7:00 pm at City Hall in Glenwood Springs. The more bodies we can pack in the place the better (we even considered encouraging people to wear a lifejacket or bring a paddle so council knows you are here to support the park). It's still not too late to send lettters!! Thanks again everyone.
