I have a 16ft rmr peak. Length of flat is 68” my frame is 68”I’m wanting to get a 73” on this raft. Based on pics do u think it will fit or will it sit uneven? There’s so much rocker on this boat. My plan is to remove the seat, sit on the cooler then add a drop bag / table seat up front

From what I can see in the picture, no problem going with a longer frame on your 16' boat. I also see your oar towers mounted quite far back from center of the raft. Is this the reason you want to reconfigure the seating arrangement? I'd remove the thorts when hauling gear.

FWIW....I'd add at least one more D ring to each side of the boat for frame attachment. Maybe two on each side if I'm planning to really load the boat up for say a Deso trip or any multi day excursions. Four corner straps to a frame loaded with gear says to me............ the frame might not follow the boat back to the upright position when trying to reflip it.

sounds like if you center it, you will have 2.5" of frame sticking past the "flat." Between the distortion of the tubes from a weighted frame and the flexing of the aluminum side rails, the tiny bit of rise that occurs in that 2.5" will not be noticeable.

I figured by removing the seat and sitting on the cooler I will add more gear space by adding a drop bag up front, while also adding a table for comfy seating. I also figure the cooler seat would allow me to be a little higher up without having to add 10” towers from my 8”..

Are you sure your raft is a 16'?



I own a 16' RMR and that one is quite different than mine. I have 3 d rings down the flat on each side and I run an 84" frame with room to spare on my flats.

It’s the RMR peak 16ft. Sweet raft but not really ideal for rigging multidays. Tons of rocker!! But that means my frame space is limited. I’m hoping at least to get 73” of frame. 68” is kind of limiting. But it does get the job done😃..

A good way to go for hauling gear with those diminished tube boats is add a trailer frame. It adds another bay that can ride up/flex on the rocker a bit better than a straight frame that is too long. The front and back of those peaks beyond the straight section are pretty big and would accommodate a trailer frame nicely. The way that boat is rigged in the pic, I'd be inclined to pull the seat, move the towers and kick bar into the next bay forward, put a cooler or box where they are now, and slide the frame forward or back to the end of the straight and stick a trailer frame on for multi days. That would make it a pretty versatile rig. Make the trailer at least 18.5" so it can drop a row of rocket boxes in a drop bag and have a table over it. That'll keep your versatility up for big multi days where hauling rockets can be a big key.

Just my opinion from a rig that has worked well for me on a bunch of trips.

Completely agree with everything Zach wrote, I run a trailer frame and have for years cause I like the versatility it provides me in rigging options.

It's also a great rigging option if you do a day trip as a paddleboat and want to haul lunch and a table.

Absolutely, but I prefer a thwart bag and a roll a table myself for paddleboating, not so hard if you get thrown into it..

I think my plan will be to add 78” side rails. Get a new 150 q cooler to sit in for extra beer storage. I will keep the drybox and other 120q cooler up front and also add a table/ drop bag in front of the cooler.. that should greatly increase my gear storage.

Since it seems that you are getting new side rails and at least (1) more crossbar the DRE/AAA frames work well for getting a little extra room for boats with rocker like that. They curve at the corners and you also don’t have that extra space for the crossbar fitting. You could order the outer shell from them and put your current crossbars on them. One important note is to let them know that you are using NRS crossbars. NRS measures width to center line of the rails & DRE/AAA measure to the outside of the side rail. They can accommodate this or at least they have in the past. They’ll also be able to make it whatever length you want.
