Ya I know, Fossil, not worth the drive. However, I'm moving to Flagstaff for the next 6months and it gives me something to play on until the good stuff returns in January.

Anyone know if the Flume Trail is open to walk up to the 20fter? I can't find anything on the forest service page. I was there in Feb 2009, it was closed, but that didn't stop anyone from going up it, but since I work for the feds, I don't need any kind of tickets.

Camping status? All the rules and regs have changed this winter, but has anyone been in the area to check any of that?

Any AZ boaters that would be interested in having another person join them paddling this winter? I'm a class V boater and will have 6 days off at a time.

Thanks,
Josh

Looks like I am going to be headed to Fossil Creek for labor day week-end. I too have heard not worth the drive but, I gotta run the 20 footer. Just to say I did it. Camping is open below Fossil Creek bridge. No fires with in a quarter mile of the creek and your site must be no closer than 100' of the creek. Camping between the bridge and the head of the creek is closed. Also new development of/or improvement of existing campsites is not allowed. That's pretty much all the info I found earlier today. The date on the page said as of March 2010. Hope that helps.

you can hike from the parking lot to the 20 foot'r really easy, no need to hike the old flume roade(also no Flume now) and then run the whole section, it is low water but warm! camping is anywhere, tons of people everywhere, quads, side by sides, all drive fossil road, and it is getting kinda trashed, i have heard they might close it or put in port o pottys but i haven't been down there since last winter. pm me if ya got any other questions, or hit me up when ya get to flg,
later
jb

i also live in flg,

I was there in March and the trail was open then...I would say it is worth the drive, but only if there is something else running in the area, or you get some additional water above base flow (so not right now). Camping is limited now, as they have closed off lots of areas, and the whole drainage is being heavily overused and trashed by partying locals. Fossil Creek is a great off-season run with a variety of fun drops...have fun!
